International Literacy Day

Since 1989, Door Step School Foundation has been working with the urban-poor, marginalized, and migrant communities to nurture not just literacy, but a strong culture of reading. This year, as we observe International Literacy Day with the theme “Promoting Literacy in the Digital Era”, it is important to pause and reflect on the realities on the ground.

Yes, education has reached many children and youth in recent years. Yet, literacy itself remains a struggle for countless children. Many are unable to read with understanding, and the reasons are complex: lack of access to schools, shortage of teachers, limited resources, and concerns around the quality of teaching. Migration and displacement further disrupt learning, leaving children at risk of being left behind.

Digital resources and methodologies can provide new opportunities — helping us reach out to children on the move, creating continuity in their education, and designing innovative approaches to teaching reading and literacy. But we must also recognize that digitalization can deepen inequalities if access is unequal, if children lack guidance, or if technology replaces rather than supports meaningful teaching.

At Door Step School Foundation, we believe literacy is not just the ability to read and write — it is the foundation for opportunity, empowerment, and inclusion. In the digital era, we remain committed to ensuring that every child has the chance to learn, to read, and to grow into a confident lifelong learner. ๐Ÿ’ก๐Ÿ“–

Celebration the 79th Independence Day with Joy & Unity!

Our centers came alive with colors of patriotism and happiness as children, parents, and community members came together to celebrate the 79th Independence Day in a grand and heartfelt way.

The celebration began with children beautifully decorating the space with flags, flowers, rangolis, and vibrant artwork, filling the atmosphere with festive energy.

With the flag hoisting ceremony, the voices of our little ones rose in harmony, singing the National Anthem and patriotic songs that touched every heart. Children shared powerful speeches and slogans, and in some centers even held processions—marching with pride and echoing the spirit of freedom.

Parents applauded their performances, while everyone enjoyed a series of engaging activities—cultural programs, painting competitions, fun games, and awareness sessions that brought the entire community together.

The day ended on a sweet note with the distribution of sweets to all children, and heartfelt thanks extended to the parents, volunteers, and supporters who made the celebration truly special.

This Independence Day wasn’t just a commemoration—it was a reminder of the values of unity, freedom, and the bright future our children represent. Together, we celebrated not just a nation’s journey, but also the power of community and togetherness.

Here’s to the spirit of freedom, celebrated in every smile, every song, and every heart! ๐Ÿ‡ฎ

World Breastfeeding Week 2025

At Door Step School Foundation (DSSF), we create awareness to breastfeeding mothers in some of the most underserved communities, including construction sites, sugar factories, and brick kilns.

Our key activities include:

✅ Discussion with parents on myths, proper breastfeeding methods, and hygiene

✅ Sharing information about the importance of breastfeeding and recommended frequency

✅ Educating on continued breastfeeding with complementary feeding after 6 months

✅ Supporting access to Take-Home Rations (THR) from Anganwadis for improved nutrition

Why it matters:

Creating sustainable support systems begins with awareness and access. At DSSF, we focus on ensuring that mothers receive the right information about breastfeeding and are connected to existing government resources like Anganwadi services and Take-Home Rations (THR). This helps families make informed choices and supports healthier starts for children within their communities.

This year’s theme calls for governments, employers, healthcare providers, and communities to establish breastfeeding-friendly policies, such as:

๐Ÿ”น Paid maternity leave

๐Ÿ”น Dedicated lactation spaces

๐Ÿ”น Training for healthcare workers and workplace support staff

Together, we can build an environment where every mother feels supported and every child thrives.
