Door Step School - Annual Presentation 2017

The Annual Presentation of Door Step School, Pune was organized on 13th of May 2017 at the auditorium in Nivara Old age Home, Navi Peth. Employees, volunteers, donors, and well-wishers of the organization attended the event in large numbers.

Celebrating yet another year of hard work and perseverance; Door Step School staff came together to review the activities conducted throughout last year, for the children from marginalized communities in the city. The day started with the diya lighting ceremony by our very own Founder and President, Mrs. Rajani Paranjpe. This was followed by a song that was beautifully sung by few members of the DSS team.

The main agenda of the event was to provide a report on programs and activities conducted during the year gone by. Team members gave a detailed analysis of all the good work their respective teams had put in throughout the year. Around 74,000 children were covered during year 2016-17, under projects like Educational Activity Centers and mobile classrooms for children from migrant communities, reading skill development program for children studying in government schools, citizens' campaign for bringing out-of-school children into mainstream education, arrangement of transport facility for regular attendance in schools, parent awareness program as well as a program teaching good sanitation habits to children at young age. Related statistics, monitored progress and future plan of action were shared with the audience.

Also on display, was some creative and well crafted work by the staff members of Door Step School, which surely left the guests gasping in awe. The students also enacted a small skit on child sexual abuse, which highlighted an existing issue in our society. On the occasion of Annual Presentation, Door Step School published a book 'Sarvansathi Shikshan' (Education for All), penned by Founder-President Rajani Paranjpe, based on experiences in conducting educational activities for children from urban poor communities. The book contains information and analysis of challenges faced while educating such children in Pune and Mumbai during first 10 years from starting the organization in 1988.

The Annual Day was concluded with felicitation of deserving volunteers and a small speech by Rajani Tai. The appreciation and encouragement from the guests have boosted the confidence of Door Step School team, for sure.

'डोअर स्टेप स्कूल' संस्थेचे वार्षिक सादरीकरण १३ मे २०१७ रोजी निवारा वृद्धाश्रम, नवी पेठ येथील सभागृहात आयोजित करण्यात आले. संस्थेचे कार्यकर्ते, स्वयंसेवक, देणगीदार, आणि हितचिंतक मोठ्या संख्येने कार्यक्रमास उपस्थित होते.

या निमित्ताने, पुणे शहरातील शिक्षणापासून वंचित राहिलेल्या बालकांसाठी गेल्या वर्षभरात राबविलेल्या विविध उपक्रमांचा आढावा 'डोअर स्टेप स्कूल'च्या कार्यकर्त्यांनी घेतला. संस्थेच्या संस्थापक-अध्यक्षा सौ. रजनी परांजपे यांच्या हस्ते दीपप्रज्वलन करुन कार्यक्रमास सुरुवात झाली. यानंतर संस्थेच्या काही कार्यकर्त्यांनी सुरेल गीत सादर करुन उपस्थितांचे स्वागत केले.

गतवर्षातील प्रकल्प व उपक्रमांचा अहवाल सादर करणे हा कार्यक्रमाचा मुख्य उद्देश होता. गेल्या वर्षभरात आपापल्या प्रकल्प गटांनी केलेल्या कामाचे तपशीलवार सादरीकरण संस्थेच्या कार्यकर्त्यांनी केले. स्थलांतरित मुलांसाठी वस्तीपातळीवरील वर्ग व चाकांवरची फिरती शाळा, सरकारी शाळांमधील मुलांसाठी वाचन संस्कार प्रकल्प, शालाबाह्य मुलांना शिक्षणाच्या मुख्य प्रवाहात आणण्यासाठी नागरिक अभियान, शाळेतील नियमित उपस्थितीसाठी वाहतुक सुविधा, तसेच पालकांचे सक्षमीकरण, लहान वयातच मुलांना स्वच्छतेच्या सवयी लावण्यासाठी उपक्रम, या सर्वांमधून २०१६-१७ वर्षात सुमारे ७४,००० मुलांपर्यंत संस्थेचे काम पोहोचले. या संदर्भातील आकडेवारी, नियंत्रित प्रगती, व भविष्यातील योजना उपस्थितांसमोर सादर करण्यात आल्या.

याबरोबरच, 'डोअर स्टेप स्कूल'च्या कार्यकर्त्यांनी तयार केलेली प्रकल्पविषयक साधने व माहिती कार्यक्रमस्थळी प्रदर्शित करण्यात आली होती. विद्यार्थ्यांच्या एका गटाने 'बाल लैंगिक शोषण' या समाजातील ज्वलंत विषयावरील पथनाट्यही सादर केले. वार्षिक सादरीकरणाच्या निमित्ताने, 'डोअर स्टेप स्कूल'तर्फे 'सर्वांसाठी शिक्षण' या रजनी परांजपे लिखित पुस्तकाचे प्रकाशन करण्यात आले. १९८८ साली संस्थेचे कार्य सुरु केल्यापासून पहिल्या दहा वर्षांमधे पुणे व मुंबई शहरातील वंचित मुलांपर्यंत शिक्षण पोहोचविताना आलेल्या अडचणींबाबत माहिती व विश्लेषण या पुस्तकात देण्यात आले आहे.

संस्थेच्या उपक्रमांमधे स्वेच्छेने योगदान देणार्‍या स्वयंसेवकांचा याप्रसंगी सत्कार करण्यात आला. रजनीताईंच्या छोटेखानी भाषणाने समारंभाची सांगता झाली. उपस्थितांनी केलेल्या कौतुकामुळे व त्यांच्याकडून मिळणार्‍या प्रोत्साहनामुळे 'डोअर स्टेप स्कूल'च्या कार्यकर्त्यांचा उत्साह नक्कीच वाढला आहे.

Annual Presentation 2016-17

Since last 24 years, Door Step School has been running various educational activities for children from marginalized communities in the city of Pune.

Around 74,000 children were covered during year 2016-17, under projects like Educational Activity Centers and mobile classrooms for children from migrant communities, reading skill development programme for children studying in government schools, citizens' campaign for bringing out-of-school children into mainstream of formal education, transport facility for regular attendance in schools, parent awareness and empowerment programme, as well as a programme teaching good sanitation habits to children at young age.

To review all the activities conducted during last year, an Annual Presentation has been scheduled on next Saturday, 13th of May 2017, between 10:00am and 11:30am. All the donors, volunteers, and wellwishers of the organization are invited to attend the programme.

शिक्षणापासून वंचित राहिलेल्या मुलांसाठी गेल्या २४ वर्षांपासून पुण्यामधे विविध शैक्षणिक उपक्रम 'डोअर स्टेप स्कूल'तर्फे राबविले जात आहेत.

स्थलांतरित मुलांसाठी वस्तीपातळीवरील वर्ग व चाकांवरची फिरती शाळा, सरकारी शाळांमधील मुलांसाठी वाचन संस्कार प्रकल्प, शालाबाह्य मुलांना शिक्षणाच्या मुख्य प्रवाहात आणण्यासाठी नागरिक अभियान, शाळेतील नियमित उपस्थितीसाठी वाहतुक सुविधा, तसेच पालकांचे सक्षमीकरण, लहान वयातच मुलांना स्वच्छतेच्या सवयी लावण्यासाठी उपक्रम, या सर्वांमधून २०१६-१७ वर्षात सुमारे ७४,००० मुलांपर्यंत संस्थेचे काम पोहोचले आहे.

वर्षभरातील कामाचा आढावा घेण्यासाठी येत्या शनिवारी, १३ मे २०१७ रोजी सकाळी १०:०० ते ११:३० या वेळेत वार्षिक सादरीकरणाचे आयोजन करण्यात आले आहे. संस्थेच्या सर्व देणगीदार, स्वयंसेवक, व हितचिंतकांनी सादरीकरणास उपस्थित रहावे, यासाठी हे आमंत्रण.

20th Anniversary of Door Step School (NGO)

Door Step School, the NGO working for education of underprivileged children in Pune, held their 20th anniversary function on 11th of May. Door Step School (DSS) teachers, staff members, volunteers, funders, and well-wishers attended the event in large numbers. Describing the journey of DSS over last 20 years, Founder-President Rajani Paranjpe said, “Education is the only solution to all problems like inequality, unemployment, poverty, and child labour etc. Hence, we started Door Step School 25 years ago in Mumbai and 20 years ago in Pune. Knowing that there is no alternate to elementary education in today’s times, DSS took up the challenge of taking underprivileged children to basic literacy level. Considering the migration issues of migrant workers’ children, DSS has been successfully taking the school itself, along with teachers and learning material, to their own doorsteps. DSS has been effectively reaching out to children through various projects like Reading Classes in Pune and PCMC schools, School-on-Wheels bus for street children, Study Centers for slum-dwelling children, School Transport for children living on construction sites, and Citizens’ Campaign to enroll out-of-school children in schools under Right To Education Act.” Mrs. Paranjpe also said that DSS got the strength of taking up all these challenges only through thousands of willing hands joining the literacy movement. However, mentioning that the goal is not yet achieved, she appealed that more organizations and individuals should join hands in taking benefits of education to every child in Pune. DSS teachers and coordinators presented annual reports of their projects in a different way. An exhibition of teaching aids prepared by DSS teachers was organized for the attendees of anniversary event.

‘डोअर स्टेप स्कूल’चा २०वा वर्धापनदिन

पुण्यातील वंचित मुलांच्या शिक्षणासाठी काम करणार्‍या ‘डोअर स्टेप स्कूल’ या सेवाभावी संस्थेचा २०वा वर्धापनदिन सोहळा ११ मे रोजी पार पडला. ‘निवारा’ वृद्धाश्रमाच्या सभागृहात आयोजित करण्यात आलेल्या कार्यक्रमास संस्थेच्या शिक्षिका, स्वयंसेवक, तसेच देणगीदार, व हितचिंतकांनी मोठ्या संख्येने हजेरी लावली. ‘डोअर स्टेप स्कूल’च्या पुण्यातील २० वर्षांच्या वाटचालीबद्दल बोलताना संस्थापिका रजनी परांजपे म्हणाल्या, “समाजातील असमानता, बेरोजगारी, गरीबी, अशा अनेक समस्यांवर शिक्षण हा एकमेव उपाय असल्याचे दिसून आल्याने २५ वर्षांपूर्वी मुंबईत व २० वर्षांपूर्वी पुण्यात ‘डोअर स्टेप स्कूल’चे काम सुरू केले. भविष्यातील कोणत्याही क्षेत्रासाठी मुलभूत शिक्षणाला पर्याय नसल्याने, वंचित गटातील मुलांना किमान साक्षरतेपर्यंत पोचविण्याचे उद्दिष्ट संस्थेने ठरविले. विस्थापित मजूरांच्या मुलांची स्थलांतराची समस्या लक्षात घेऊन, शिक्षक व शिक्षणसामग्रीसहित शाळाच त्यांच्या दारी नेण्याचा प्रयोग संस्थेने यशस्विरीत्या केला आहे. पुणे व पिंपरी-चिंचवड मनपाच्या शाळांमधून ‘वाचन वर्ग’, रस्त्यांवरील मुलांसाठी ‘फिरती शाळा’, वस्त्यांमधील मुलांसाठी ‘अभ्यासिका’, बांधकाम साईटवर राहणार्‍या मुलांसाठी शालेय वाहतुकीची सोय, तसेच शिक्षणहक्क कायद्यांतर्गत शालाबाह्य मुलांना शिक्षणाच्या मुख्य प्रवाहात आणण्यासाठी नागरिक अभियान, अशा विविध उपक्रमांद्वारे ‘डोअर स्टेप स्कूल’ शिक्षणप्रसाराचे कार्य करीत आहे.” संस्थेच्या २० वर्षांच्या वाटचालीत हजारो हातांची साथ लाभल्याने काम करण्याचे बळ मिळत गेले, पण अजूनही संस्थेने हाती घेतलेले काम पूर्ण झाले असे वाटत नाही; उलट, पुण्यातील सर्व मुलांना शिक्षणाचा लाभ मिळवून देण्यासाठी आणखी संस्था व व्यक्तिंनी पुढे यावे व हा जगन्नाथाचा रथ ओढण्यास मदत करावी, असे आवाहनही सौ. परांजपे यांनी केले. संस्थेच्या विविध उपक्रमांच्या गतवर्षातील कामांचा आढावा यावेळी घेण्यात आला. या उपक्रमांमध्ये काम करणार्‍या शिक्षिकांनी अनोख्या पद्धतीने वार्षिक अहवालाचे सादरीकरण केले. संस्थेच्या शिक्षिकांनी तयार केलेल्या शैक्षणिक साहित्याचे प्रदर्शन यावेळी लावण्यात आले होते.

शिक्षण क्षेत्रातील योगदानाबद्दल बांधकाम व्यावसायिकांचा गौरव

            दिवसागणिक विस्तारत चाललेल्या पुणे शहरातील एक महत्त्वाचे उद्योगक्षेत्र म्हणजे बांधकाम व्यवसाय. आधुनिक तंत्रज्ञान, स्थापत्य कौशल्य, आणि व्यावसायिक यशासोबतच या क्षेत्राचा एक अविभाज्य भाग म्हणजे मनुष्यबळ. केवळ मोठमोठे प्रकल्प व नफ्याच्या गणितांपलिकडे जात, बांधकाम क्षेत्रातील असंघटीत व विस्थापित कामगारांच्या कल्याणासाठी, त्यांच्या मुलांच्या शिक्षणासाठी योगदान देणार्‍या बांधकाम व्यावसायिकांचा 'डोअर स्टेप स्कूल' संस्थेतर्फे नुकताच सत्कार करण्यात आला. 'डोअर स्टेप स्कूल' ही संस्था कामगारांच्या मुलांसाठी पुण्यातील सुमारे १०० बांधकाम साईटवर वर्ग चालवते. या कार्यामध्ये संस्थेला सहकार्य करणार्‍या बांधकाम व्यावसायिकांचा संस्थेतर्फे 'एज्युकेअर अ‍ॅवॉर्ड' देऊन गौरव करण्यात आला. शनिवार, दि.१२ मे २०१२ रोजी नवी पेठेतील 'निवारा' येथे आयोजित करण्यात आलेल्या कार्यक्रमास क्रेडाई (बिल्डर्स असोसिएशन) पुणे, कामगार-कल्याण समितीचे अध्यक्ष अनुज भंडारी उपस्थित होते. 'डोअर स्टेप स्कूल'च्या संचालिका जयश्री जोगळेकर यांनी वार्षिक अहवाल सादर केला. बांधकाम मजुरांच्या मुलांच्या शिक्षणासाठी क्रेडाई व बांधकाम व्यावसायिकांकडून मिळणार्‍या सहकार्याबद्दल त्यांनी आभार मानले. यावेळी आपले मनोगत व्यक्त करताना श्री. भंडारी यांनी संस्थेच्या कामाचे कौतुक केले. आपल्या मुलांच्या शिक्षणाची काळजी घेतली जात असल्याने, कामगार अधिक कार्यक्षमतेने व आनंदाने काम करु शकतात, ज्यामुळे कामाची गुणवत्ता सुधारुन बांधकाम व्यावसायिक व ग्राहक, दोघांनाही फायदा होतो, असे ते म्हणाले. शिक्षण क्षेत्रातील बिल्डर्सच्या योगदानाबद्दल त्यांचे अभिनंदन करुन, भविष्यात हा सहभाग वाढत जाईल, अशी अपेक्षा श्री. भंडारी यांनी यावेळी व्यक्त केली.

            'डोअर स्टेप स्कूल'च्या संस्थापिका रजनी परांजपे यांनी 'एव्हरी चाइल्ड काउंट्स' अभियानाबद्दल माहिती दिली व पुण्यातील सर्व सहा वर्षाच्या मुलांना शाळा-प्रवेशात मदत करण्यासाठी, या अभियानात सहभागी होण्याचे आवाहन केले. प्रोजेक्ट डायरेक्टर रविंद्र महामुनी यांनी सूत्रसंचालन व आभार-प्रदर्शन केले. पुण्यातील नामवंत बिल्डर्स व त्यांचे प्रतिनिधी, तसेच संस्थेचे देणगीदार, स्वयंसेवक, कार्यकर्ते, व नागरिक यावेळी मोठ्या संख्येने उपस्थित होते. संस्थेतर्फे राबविण्यात येणार्‍या विविध उपक्रमांशी संबंधित प्रदर्शनास उपस्थितांनी भेट देऊन संस्थेच्या कार्याबद्दल आनंद व्यक्त केला.

Builders felicitated with EduCare Awards

           Construction industry is a significant part of rapidly expanding city of Pune. And manpower is an important ingredient of this industry. Sustaining the cultured image of Pune, builders in the city have moved beyond huge projects and profit calculations, and have been actively contributing to build the future of their labour’s children. Door Step School, an NGO that runs study centres for construction workers’ children at more than 100 construction sites, felicitated supporting builders with ‘EduCare Awards’ on Saturday, 12th May 2012. The function held at ‘Nivara’ hall in Navi Peth, was chaired by Mr. Anuj Bhandari of CREDAI (Builders’ Association) Pune, Labour-Welfare Committee. Jayashree Joglekar, Director of Door Step School, presented annual report of the organisation. She thanked CREDAI and builders for supporting the NGO in educating construction workers’ children. Mr. Bhandari appreciated the work done by Door Step School. ‘Since their children’s education is taken care of by someone at the site, the labourers - usually both parents - are found to be working more efficiently. This improves quality of the product and benefits the builders as well as the customer,’ he said. Mr. Bhandari congratulated the builders for their contribution to the cause, and expected increased support from the community in future.

           Rajani Paranjpe, Founder-President of Door Step School, spoke about ‘Every Child Counts’ campaign, and appealed to the citizens to join hands for ensuring 100% school-enrolment of six-year-old children across Pune city. Project Director Ravindra Mahamuni presented vote of thanks. Eminent builders and their representatives, donors, volunteers, staff members, and citizens were present in large numbers. Attendees visited and appreciated the exhibition of various projects run by Door Step School.
