Weekly Reading Circle - 15

In this week's Weekly Reading Circle at Door Step School Foundation, we read and engage with the paper "Emergent Literacy (अंकुरित साक्षरता)" by  Shuchi Sinha, Akhila Pydah and Shailaja Menon.

This Practitioner Brief is part of a series brought out by the Early Literacy Initiative anchored by the Azim Premji School of Education at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Hyderabad.

The discussion following the article reading focused on key questions and ideas, including:

  1. What is emergent literacy, and how does it differ from other literacy approaches?

  2. How can different perspectives on emergent literacy support children's learning processes?

  3. How do structured teaching methods sometimes hinder children's learning, and how does emergent literacy, which allows children to learn through their own experiences, provide a more effective alternative?

  4. How can we better understand children's learning processes and design tools and structures that align with their natural development?
